Mobile Chipper 806.2 PTC Truck

The highly efficient 806.2 PTC truck chipper has been combined with state-of-the-art truck technology to deliver good road performance, easily transferring between chipping sites. This unit offers both chipping and chip transport in a flexible solution for operators.

The 806.2 PTC truck chipper is powered by the truck’s 390 (530) to 566kW (770hp) diesel engine via a gearbox, driveshaft, and belt transmission. The chipper’s electrical and hydraulic systems are interconnected with the truck’s, and the chip bin is mounted between chipper and truck cabin. This can be a ‘high and sideways’ dumping type unit or just sideways dumping.

806.2 PTC truck chippers are fitted with a long-reach crane and have a cabin that can be raised and lowered, meeting a range of different operational configurations. The unit produces fuel wood chips from forest residues, and has the capacity to process tops and branches, and parts of trees up to a diameter of 50cm for softwood and up to a maximum diameter of 40cm for hardwood. It is fitted with a proven chip accelerator to ensure optimum filling of both the chipper’s and the trailer’s chip bin with minimal dust emissions.

With its high-capacity chip production, reliability and long service life, the 806.2 provides users with a flexible chipper that can meet a variety of demands, delivering smooth operations at minimal costs.

Chassis

Carrier vehicle will typically be a Volvo FH16, 550, 650 to 750hp or a Scania R530, R590 or R770 model. These trucks have 6x4 or 8x4 chassis with a 4.5 to 4.9 wheelbase. The chassis is factory adapted so it can carry and power the chipper, chip bin and crane.

Drum chipper

The 806.2 PTC truck chipper uses a robust drum chipper with a powerful infeed and closed drum for best chip quality; chip output is via a chip accelerator and chip tube. This combination provides the most energy-efficient chipping process and a consistently high chip quality.

Support frame

On the truck, there is a mounting frame, foundations for the chipper, chip bin and crane, along with platforms and ladders for the safe maintenance of the chipper, knife and tool box, and fire extinguishers in protective boxes.

Power transmission

On the truck’s driveshaft there is an additional split-box to take power from the truck’s engine to the chipper.

Hydraulic system

The chipper features a complete hydraulic system with a load-sensing, variable pump for the chipper, proportional functions for the infeed, hydraulic valves for other cylinder functions and the chip tube turning motor, with flow-adapted on/off functions. The chip accelerator is powered by a hydrostatic pump, which enables the accelerator to run at a constant speed regardless of the engine’s revolutions.

The system also features a load-sensing and variable pump for the crane, cabin and support legs. Oil coolers, with a hydraulic tank and return filter, are also included.

Control & electrical system

The chipper features a complete control system with truck engine operation from the crane cabin. The system includes monitoring, alarm and safety features, including water temperature, water level, oil pressure and charging as well as temperature, oil levels and filters for the hydraulics. Electronically monitored infeed load control provides the most effective high-capacity chipping.

Everything is controlled via a central Windows-based computer located in the driver’s cabin. The system has a color touchscreen with instruments and control devices for all hydraulic functions. A set of push buttons for operating the chipper functions are located near the crane control levers.

Chip bins: two versions

The high and sideways dumping chip bin is suspended by yokes that lift it up and out to the side before discharging the chips. This makes it possible, when there is lack of space at the chipping site, to first blow the chips into the bin on the truck and discharge them when convenient into a trailer.

The crate-type chip bin dumps sideways only and has a cover which is lifted at the rear during the chipping operation to blow the chips under the cover. This minimizes any spillage on the ground and on the truck.
