Since 1974, Siwertell ship unloaders have repositioned the standards in dry bulk handling, setting them so high that our through-ship efficiencies, capacities and technological capabilities remain unmatched today.
Behind the success of Siwertell screw conveyor ship unloading technology is the unique inlet feeder, designed and developed by two Swedish inventors, Olle Siwersson and Gunnar Tell, who combined their surnames to give the brand its famous name, Siwertell.
It has now been fifty years since the counter-rotating inlet feeder was patented. Competitors have tried to copy the technology, but so far without substantial success, strengthening Bruks Siwertell’s position as a world-leading manufacturer of continuous screw-type conveyor ship unloaders.
A story of trust
Many units that were delivered in the 1970s, are still operational today, still delivering highly competitive performances. When operators needed a new approach to dry bulk handling, which offered safe, enclosed, efficient ship-to-shore material transfers, rejecting the issues of the open handling of dry bulk materials, like spillage and dust emissions, our technology was there to help.
We are nothing without our customers, and our story is a story of trust. Siwertell ship unloading technology was, and still is, revolutionary. It takes bravery to step away from convention, to question whether or not something is as good as it can be. We keep asking this question.
Together, with our customers, we are transforming the dry bulk handling industry. We know that to be sustainable, we need to keep listening, keep innovating, and remain open to all the new possibilities that digitalization and automation will bring.
These technological advances will be underpinned by our most important resource, our people. Their integrity, commitment and teamwork will remain at the heart of our company, and as we look back and celebrate the transformations and achievements that our ship unloading technology has brought to the dry bulk handling industry, we recognize the contributions of our personnel.
Giving voice to values
The voices of Bruks Siwertell AB’s directors not only echo the ethos and values of the company, but also, understanding their individual contributions, over decades, identifies the spirit that is intrinsic within Bruks Siwertell.
As board members they make decisions that drive the company forward, including Bruks Siwertell Group’s ambitions to set dry bulk industry’s sustainability standards, just like the technology set performance standards fifty years ago.

50 YEARS OF INNOVATION: DRIVING DRY BULK HANDLING ADVANCES
We all use our experiences, backgrounds and education to inform our decision making. Military service as a paratrooper taught me the importance of teamwork; nothing is stronger than the weakest link, and a team’s ability is always larger than the sum of its individuals. A university degree in industrial engineering and management has given me analytical strengths, and competing in individual sports, such as sailing and golf when growing up, has taught me to trust in my own abilities.
50 YEARS OF ADVANCES: TECHNOLOGY POSITIONED FOR THE FUTURE
Even before beginning my ‘Siwertell’ career, in 2004, I worked with screw technology, which put me in a good position when I started as a manager for the company’s project department. Before long, I oversaw the start-up of a research and development and standardization department in Bjuv, Sweden, and I became responsible for developing the CAD/PLM system before commencing my current position as technical director.
50 YEARS OF SERVICE: A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT
Service work is a creative endeavor; you have to think laterally, and bring all your knowledge, experience and enthusiasm to the table. No two dry bulk handling installations and operations are the same, making customer support equally unique. When our customers are happy, I am happy. In fact, we are all happy. Sharing the success of a customer’s operations is a company-wide experience, extending far beyond our offices in Sweden. We work as part of an international team, and it is a fantastic feeling to share.
50 YEARS OF SUSTAINABILITY: A ROADMAP FOR FUTURE SUCCESS
To take the lead, and make a decision, is all about being confident, whether it is an idea, problem-solving or an emergency situation that requires a split-second decision. This confidence comes through experience, listening and discussing, and trust in your colleagues. Decisions are rarely a one man show, they are based on a collective effort.
50 YEARS OF CHANGE: TRANSFORMING OPERATIONS ONE PORT AT A TIME
My most prominent Siwertell story was the sale and installation of the very first mobile Siwertell ship unloader in 1991. It was something that we had been intensively working towards as a team, and it was an incredibly proud moment for us all to see it up and running. Given my long experience with Siwertell ship unloading equipment, I can see how our customers pretty quickly benefit from installing our technology after start up. I have met, and have excellent relationships with customers who have really appreciated these advantages, whether that be in terms of through-ship efficiencies, profitability, or environmental impact, and those benefits have extended to the communities they serve as well.
50 years of leading: the original screw-type ship unloader
Obviously after 30 years I have so many Siwertell memories, but one project stands out for me. I was given the opportunity to participate in the installation work of ship unloader and terminal equipment in Singapore between 1997 and 1998. It was really a huge experience and proved useful in so many aspects of my career.
50 years of dedication: teamwork underpins success
More than three decades of working with Siwertell dry bulk handling products and the company has shown me the depth of dedication of all our personnel and their wish to achieve the best solution for every customer; we never walk away from challenging situations, we fix any issues that our customers face, and work hard for resolutions. We keep our promises.
50 years of inspiration: the people behind the brand
The people are what has always inspired me within Bruks Siwertell. Everyone always chips in and does their part – and a bit more. Our personnel are the very heart of our company. They are eager to share their knowledge with colleagues and new recruits. Specifically in my role within HR, I have a keen eye on meeting our 2030 targets of raising our eNPs personnel satisfaction scores and also the percentage of female managers to 30 percent. We are currently participating in a network for female engineers, which is just one way of promoting our company to female managers and engineers.
