Stacker reclaimer for wood chips

Bruks Siwertell awarded turn-key slew bearing replacement project for US operator

15 Sep 2025

Bruks Siwertell has been awarded an upgrade contract for the replacement of a critical slew bearing on a fully automated Bruks stacker reclaimer operating in the Southeastern United States. The turn-key project reinforces Bruks Siwertell’s long-standing service support commitment to this returning customer.

The original stacker reclaimer was supplied by Bruks Siwertell in 2012 and is designed to handle softwood chips at a total capacity of 40,000 metric tons (4.0 million ft³). After more than a decade of reliable service, the machine's 4.14-meter (163-inch) slew bearing had reached the end of its operational life.

“This project exemplifies the long-term value of working with an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partner who knows the equipment inside and out,” says Jason Scott, Service Manager, Bruks Siwertell. “Because we were involved in the original delivery, we were able to move quickly to engineer a complete rebuild plan that minimizes downtime and ensures lasting performance.”

“Our team’s familiarity with the system, combined with our extensive service network, made it possible to respond quickly with the right solution,” adds Scott. “We are proud to continue supporting this customer’s operational success with the same reliability and expertise they have trusted since 2012.”

Bruks Siwertell offers one of the most comprehensive stacker reclaimer portfolios on the market. Woodyards supplied by Bruks Siwertell are seen as the industry model for high-volume wood processing facilities, as they can safely and efficiently manage vast quantities of wood chips and various other organic materials, minimizing material degradation. Automated storage systems also have a fraction of the carbon footprint of a manually managed pile and offer much improved emissions control.

The scope of the order includes engineering, parts supply, installation, quality assurance and control, and recommissioning; all scheduled works are planned for completion within a 12-week timeframe. Engineering and pre-construction planning is already underway, with final delivery and commissioning set for October 2025.
