WSM electric equipment range deepens Bruks Siwertell Group’s sustainability drive

28 May 2024

Bruks Siwertell Group company, West Salem Machinery (WSM), which was acquired in 2023, has strengthened the scope of the Group’s wood-processing expertise, and also its commitment to sustainability through the expansion of its electric-drive equipment portfolio.

“Electric-drives are an environmental and operational game-changer,” notes Peter Jonsson, CEO, Bruk Siwertell Group. “Although we appreciate that they are not feasible for all technology and applications, where possible, Bruks Siwertell offers electric-drive alternatives for dry bulk handling and wood-processing machinery, including options for Siwertell ship unloaders.

“Switching to electric-drive equipment can literally transform operations,” Jonsson adds. “It is not only reliable and cost-effective, but in some wood-processing installations, in North America for example, electric solutions can eliminate the need for permits from local air pollution control districts, and enable operators to capitalize on new tax incentives and programs.”

Compared with diesel-driven or hydraulic-driven alternatives, electric drives offer significant environmental and operational advantages to users. The main benefits are that they are quiet, clean, highly efficient, and deliver stepless, precise controls.

Furthermore, electric drives offer substantial energy savings, which reduces operating costs, and can eliminate the use of fossil-fuel motors, enabling their use in locations with very strict emissions controls. They are also easy to maintain and are relatively simple to integrate and install, and condition-monitor, where applicable, through the use of all electric components.

WSM stationary electric-drive wood-processing machinery has been delivered since 1947, making it a mature technology, which is proven in service.

“Our innovative product development, including the use of new technologies as they become available, is coupled with proven environment-friendly equipment. As the global shift towards environmental protection and increased awareness of the impact of industrial activities continues, electric drives are a perfect positive contribution to addressing this,” Jonsson concludes.

WSM electric-drive products add to Bruks Siwertell Group’s wide range of dry bulk handling and wood-processing machinery. The Group aims to set the sustainability standard of the industries that it serves and part of this, is its commitment to delivering products that minimize environmental impact during their operation.
