Bruks Air-supported belt conveyor system

Innovative air-cushioned conveyor system benefits Drax’s LaSalle BioEnergy facility

2 Jun 2018

Bruks Siwertell has recently completed design and delivery of an air-supported belt conveyor system to handle wood pellets at Drax’s US-based LaSalle BioEnergy facility in Urania, Louisiana.

Bruks Siwertell supplied two  Bruks Turbulator conveyors and a transfer tower to handle wood pellets up to 300t/h as part of a new rail load-out system for the plant. The Turbulators provide a number of benefits for this project including an enclosed design, which protects the environment from dust emissions and the finished pellets from the elements.

Material is conveyed on a belt supported by a pressurized cushion of air, eliminating the idlers that are traditionally used on belt conveyor and therefore, significantly reducing the risk of fire and minimizing maintenance costs. Foundation costs were also reduced as the use of cable towers allowed for longer conveyor spans between supports.
