Maintaining a Siwertell ship unloader in good condition is one of the keys to a safe, reliable and profitable operation. The purpose of an inspection is to highlight any problem areas or components not detected during regular maintenance, as well as to improve the overall operation. 

Mechanical inspections are based on operator needs and the machine’s condition. During an inspection visit, all essential unloader functions and movements are tested, along with sequences for the conveyor system. A review of any maintenance undertaken by the operator and the alarm history is also carried out, as well as an analysis of recurring alarms and trends.

Visual checks and an assessment of the mechanics, hydraulics and overall safety is covered during an inspection. Defects are noted, as well as potential issues in the future and comments on maintenance and operational issues may also be included. The surveyor will estimate the remaining service lifetime of installed wear parts, along with spare parts recommendations. 

The inspection generates a full technical report and covers each part assessed and any requirements for special attention, maintenance, repair or upgrade. The description also includes recommendations for any further investigation, assistance or training needs. Mechanical inspections take an average of three days per unloader. They can also include optional extras such as a performance evaluation, which checks the unloader’s current operational achievements against its design performance criteria and identifies potential improvements.

  • Customers must ensure that critical areas are cleaned prior to the visual inspection as per OEM instruction; if any damage is evident, further cleaning during the inspection may be required 
  • Inspection covers needs to be opened; in preparation, this can be carried out prior to an inspection or during it
  • Sky-lift with a 35m reach; to be arranged by the customer 
  • Personnel requirements: two mechanics, one operator, one Siwertell surveyor
  • Specific Siwertell ship unloader tools, supplied when machine was delivered
  • Safety and personal protective equipment; customers are required to ensure that their personnel have appropriate safety equipment
