New Orleans networking event extends valuable connections

Siwertell has recently attended the 36th Annual World Trade and Transport Conference in New Orleans, USA, to further develop industry dialogues and strengthen its position in the country.

The two-day event, held between 7th and 8th February, was hosted by the Mississippi Valley Trade and Transport Council (MVTTC) at the Omni Royal Orleans in the city’s French Quarter, close to the Port of New Orleans; the sixth-largest US port based on volumes of cargoes handled.

The MVTTC is a trade association that promotes the production, consumption, handling, sales and distribution of millions of tons of bulk material through the Mississippi River system.

“Having already established a prominent and successful footprint in North and South America, the conference provided the chance to further extend our presence through closely integrated networking opportunities with this sector of the US bulk handling community,” says Patrik Henryson, Siwertell Sales Manager, North and South America.

Designed to encourage discussion and support knowledge-sharing between attendees, sponsors and exhibitors, the conference was attended by hundreds of industry leaders who participated in a range of speaker sessions focused on key topics affecting bulk handling on the Mississippi River including commodities and river statistics, and port updates.

“It is important to pay attention to the broad spectrum of bulk handling trends at international, national and regional levels,” adds Mr Henryson. “This is why events such as these are essential.”

An invitation to the Mardi Gras celebrations was also included. Attendees had the opportunity to sample some of New Orleans’ famed cuisine including oysters, lollipop lamb chops and a seafood buffet.
