Flexible cement terminal operations with rubber-tired Siwertell ship unloader
Bruks Siwertell has delivered a high-capacity bulk cement unloading solution for Ozinga Cement Inc. new cement import terminal at the Port of Palm Beach in Florida, USA. The installation features a rubber-tired Siwertell 490 F-type ship unloader integrated with an enclosed conveying system, enabling efficient, dust-free cement handling and reliable imports for ready-mix concrete production.
Customer need
Ozinga Cement Inc. required a modern cement import terminal to support its expanding ready-mix concrete operations and increasing demand for cement in Florida. The Port of Palm Beach was selected as the strategic location for the new bulk cement terminal, designed to handle imported cement efficiently while ensuring reliable logistics for downstream concrete production.
A key operational requirement was the ability to unload cement vessels quickly while maintaining flexibility at the berth. The quay at the Port of Palm Beach serves multiple port activities, which meant that the ship unloading equipment needed to be easily movable once vessel unloading operations were completed.
In addition, the terminal required a fully integrated material handling solution capable of transporting cement from the ship unloader directly to a newly constructed storage dome while maintaining enclosed, dust-free conveying.
Our solution
Bruks Siwertell supplied a rubber-tired Siwertell 490 F-type ship unloader, providing the mobility required for a multi-use quay environment. Once unloading operations are completed, the rubber-tired ship unloader can be relocated away from the berth, allowing other port operations to continue without disruption.
The Siwertell ship unloader uses proven screw conveyor technology to deliver continuous, high-capacity cement unloading with fully enclosed and dust-free material handling. The system is designed for a rated capacity of 600t/h and can efficiently unload vessels up to 30,000 dwt.
The ship unloader is integrated with an enclosed conveying system that transports cement directly to the terminal’s new storage dome. This integrated bulk handling solution ensures smooth and efficient material flow from vessel to storage while maintaining high operational reliability and environmental performance. During performance testing, the installation achieved an unloading rate of 613t/h, exceeding the contractual requirement and demonstrating the system’s operational capability.
